The grand Spiti loop — a complete circuit through the Kinnaur and Spiti valleys and back via the
Atal Tunnel to Manali. Ancient monasteries, the last villages of India, high-altitude deserts, and the
lush green Kullu Valley, all in one epic eleven-day journey.
Day 1 — Chandigarh to Sarahan
After pick-up in Chandigarh, we climb out of the plains and onto the Hindustan–Tibet road,
following the Sutlej River into the apple country of Kinnaur. A long but spectacular first day of
river gorges and pine-clad slopes.
Arrive at Sarahan, the old summer capital of the Bushahr kingdom, and visit the striking Bhimakali
Temple with its Indo-Tibetan tower architecture.
Overnight Stay: Sarahan
Day 2 — Sarahan to Chitkul
Drive into the beautiful Sangla (Baspa) Valley and on to Chitkul, the last inhabited village on the
old Indo-Tibetan trade route. Explore its timber houses, the ancient Mathi Temple, and the icy
Baspa River that rushes past the village.
En route, take in the terraced fields of Sangla and the historic Kamru Fort framed by snow peaks.
Overnight Stay: Chitkul
Day 3 — Chitkul to Kalpa
Wind back down the Baspa Valley and on to Kalpa, a charming village set among apple orchards and
deodar forests. The drive serves up constant views of the Sutlej gorge far below.
Kalpa is famous for its front-row panorama of the sacred Kinner Kailash range, glowing gold at
sunrise and sunset. Visit Roghi village and the dramatic Suicide Point viewpoint.
Overnight Stay: Kalpa
Day 4 — Kalpa to Nako
Today the green of Kinnaur gives way to the bare, dramatic mountains of the cold desert. Drive past
the confluence of the Spiti and Sutlej rivers at Khab and up the famous Ka Loops to Nako.
Perched above 3,600 metres, Nako is built around its tranquil emerald lake, ringed by willows and an
old Buddhist monastery — a perfect spot to rest and acclimatise.
Overnight Stay: Nako
Day 5 — Nako to Tabo
A scenic drive brings us to Tabo, home to one of the oldest continuously functioning Buddhist
monasteries in the Himalayas. Founded in 996 CE, Tabo Monastery is known as the "Ajanta of the
Himalayas" for its thousand-year-old murals and stucco statues.
Explore the mud-walled gompa complex and the meditation caves carved into the cliffs above the
village.
Overnight Stay: Tabo
Day 6 — Tabo to Mudh (Pin Valley)
Turn off into the spectacular Pin Valley National Park, a remote side-valley famed for its red-and-
ochre mountains and the rare snow leopard and ibex that roam its heights.
Reach Mudh (Mud), the last motorable village of the Pin Valley and a favourite base for trekkers.
Soak in the silence and the wide-open Himalayan skies.
Overnight Stay: Mudh
Day 7 — Mudh to Kaza
Drive back out of the Pin Valley and on to Kaza, the lively sub-divisional headquarters and largest
township of Spiti. En route, stop at the cliff-top Dhankar Monastery overlooking the meeting of the
Spiti and Pin rivers.
Spend the evening exploring Kaza's colourful market, cafes, and handicraft shops while you
acclimatise to the altitude.
Overnight Stay: Kaza
Day 8 — Kaza to Kibber Village, on to Losar
A full day of Spiti's headline sights. Visit the iconic Key (Kye) Monastery cascading down its
conical hill, then cross Asia's highest suspension bridge at Chicham to reach Kibber village at
around 4,200 metres.
If time allows, take in the high hamlets of Komic, Hikkim, and Langza before driving on to Losar,
the last village of the Spiti Valley near the Kunzum Pass.
Overnight Stay: Losar
Day 9 — Losar to Sissu
Cross the high Kunzum Pass (4,590 m), with its prayer-flag-draped temple and sweeping views of the
CB ranges, and descend into the green Lahaul Valley along the Chandra River.
Arrive at Sissu, a pretty riverside village beneath the towering Ghepan Goh peak, with its famous
waterfall and the gateway to the Atal Tunnel just ahead.
Overnight Stay: Sissu
Day 10 — Sissu to Manali
Glide through the engineering marvel of the Atal Tunnel — the world's longest highway tunnel
above 10,000 ft — and emerge into the lush green Kullu Valley, a dramatic contrast to the
cold desert behind you.
Settle into Manali and explore at leisure — the Hadimba Devi Temple, Old Manali cafes,
Vashisht hot springs, and the buzzing Mall Road.
Overnight Stay: Manali
Day 11 — Manali to Chandigarh Drop
After breakfast, begin the scenic descent from Manali along the Beas River through the Kullu Valley,
crossing the Pandoh Dam and Mandi before reaching the plains.
Arrive in Chandigarh by evening for your drop, carrying home the memories of one of the most
breathtaking road journeys in the Himalayas. We hope to host you again soon!
